No, even in the early episodes, there was no smiling. I actually think that it must have been when someone else was using his body and his head was being stored in a globe thing. It was an evil dude, it I got the episode right.
Kirk and this chick also had these beings using there bodies.

That must be from one of the early episodes, before the Vulcan character was totally developed.
He even has a dimple!! That somehow seems terribly incongruous...
